Several people have already asked us why we chose the name that we did, so here’s a little bit of background.
First of all, settling upon a name was extremely painful. I had a whole list of names that I liked, and Martina had her own list of names that she liked, and as is usually the case, there was very little overlap between the two.
In fact, the shortlist was probably 6 or 8 names long for each sex. After much debate and looking a little further into the meanings of each name, we approved two boy names and two girl names, to cover all possibilities for the two children we plan on having.
Our first choice of girl name was Ellie Grace. Ellie means “bright shining one”, or “beautiful woman” and Grace means “love”, “favour”, or “blessing”, all of which we thought were very fitting and powerful attributes for our daughter.
Secondly, I can’t say that we know of another Ellie, so we’re quite happy to have something of a unique name.
Lastly, it just sounds so cute! It’s a very suitable name for our beautiful daughter who will live a life of receiving and giving love and light.
