Monthly daddy/daughter date at Starbucks and Home Depot

Recently, we came to learn that Home Depot runs a free monthly workshop for kids where they make something simple and different each month.

Locally, Home Depot just happens to be next door to Starbucks, so once a month, Ellie and I start off by having breakfast at Starbucks and then doing the class at Home Depot. Continue reading “Monthly daddy/daughter date at Starbucks and Home Depot”

Photographer’s assistant

We’re currently in the process of applying for Jack’s British passport and as part of that process, I needed to take some photos of Jack.

I asked Ellie to help me out by sitting in position so that I could set up camera with a model with a little more patience and cooperation than a 1-year old. Continue reading “Photographer’s assistant”

Ellie’s trip to NH and MA over 4th of July

This 4th of July, we took a trip to MA and NH to visit family, attend a christening and enjoy the summer in New England.

While there, Ellie got to know her second cousins Addison, Mason and Emmerson much better and enjoyed all sorts of outings and events, like the 4th of July parade, Santa’s Village and she even got to sit in the cockpit of the plane that took her to Boston! “We are engineers.”

This past weekend I told Ellie that I needed to build a new cat tree that was delivered earlier in the week. She expressed a keen interest in helping me so I held off until she was able to help me.

On Sunday, we joined forces and she helped me out placing the pieces together and even tightening some bolts up. She had a great time and was really proud of herself. She went on to tell Mama that “Me and Daddy are engineers and we built a cat tree!” Continue reading ““We are engineers.””

Ellie asked for a dance party [VIDEO]

We don’t play too much “kids’ music” in our house (or cars). Instead, we just play what we like and Ellie has come to love it. She can pretty much sing most of Adele’s 25 (thanks to Marti) and she knows a lot of rock, dubstep and electronic rock thanks to me.

The other night we threw on some Coldplay and the way Ellie started jamming out when the chorus came along is ridiculously adorable, not to mention the “waiting finger” while she waits for it to kick in. Continue reading “Ellie asked for a dance party [VIDEO]”

A date at Tampa International Airport

On Valentine’s Day, I was supposed to take Ellie on a date while Marti took Jack on a date. Ellie and I had agreed to go to the airport because she had shown such an interest in airports after reading her book Ellie’s First Plane Ride where a toy elephant takes her friend toy penguin on a trip to the airport and then on the plane, with photos of them riding the escalators, the monorail and getting their miniature luggage at baggage claim.

However, Valentine’s Day rolled around and I was feeling wretched, and ended up spending all day in bed. So we rescheduled for the following weekend, except Mama and Jack joined us. Continue reading “A date at Tampa International Airport”

A bike ride after work

There are a few months of the year when Florida is quite delightful, starting in about November and lasting until February. Outside of that is just hot and nasty. So when this time of year rolls around, we do our best to make the most of it.

The other night I came home and was greeted at the garage door by Ellie who said:

Daddy, I suggested that when you came home, that we all go on a bike ride together and Jack can come too.

A gorgeous day for a walk

Ellie had the pleasure of spending the day with our dear friend Amy, who was kind enough to look after the kids while we had something to do.

We got several photos of Ellie & Jack being adorable together, but this one took the prize. Evidently, they went on a walk and Ellie made sure to get her sunglasses to both protect her eyes and to look adorable, as she tends to do when she wears sunglasses.
