Putting her own shoes on

While packing the car up to go on a trip, I asked Ellie to put her shoes on while I got things in the car, which she’s very capable of doing.

She chose to wear a particularly snug pair of shoes so while I’m in the driveway with the car, I start to hear this dragging noise. Then from behind the car appears Ellie who had managed to get one shoe on, but couldn’t quite manage the other one, so she took the initiative to put one of Mama’s shoes on so that she could walk outside and get help from me. Genius child 😍 Continue reading “Putting her own shoes on”

Ellie’s Halloween costume

This year, Ellie decided she wanted to be a construction worker for Halloween again. Since we already had the costume, I was all about reusing something instead of spending money on something she’ll wear once.

She fits into it much better than she did last year, as if we needed more proof that she’s growing up and getting bigger all the time. Continue reading “Ellie’s Halloween costume”

Photographer’s assistant

We’re currently in the process of applying for Jack’s British passport and as part of that process, I needed to take some photos of Jack.

I asked Ellie to help me out by sitting in position so that I could set up camera with a model with a little more patience and cooperation than a 1-year old. Continue reading “Photographer’s assistant”

Enjoying what remains of spring

In Florida, there’s many variations to describe what seasons we have: “Hot and hotter” and “Spring and summer” are just a couple of those.

Whatever you call them, yesterday was “only” 80°F (27°C) with low humidity and a bit of a breeze, so we made the most of it and went on a bike ride before summer arrives and we stay holed up for half the year. Continue reading “Enjoying what remains of spring”

A bike ride after work

There are a few months of the year when Florida is quite delightful, starting in about November and lasting until February. Outside of that is just hot and nasty. So when this time of year rolls around, we do our best to make the most of it.

The other night I came home and was greeted at the garage door by Ellie who said:

Daddy, I suggested that when you came home, that we all go on a bike ride together and Jack can come too.

Ellie’s new favourite toy

Ellie has always had an affinity for keys. She loves playing with car keys and house keys. However, we’ve always shied away from giving her our car keys, in case she loses them.

However, Mama came up with a genius idea. On Amazon, you can pick up a car key “shell” without the electronics for about $5. She now doesn’t go anywhere without her key and loves having a car key just like Mama’s.

Ellie’s 3rd Christmas

Ellie is at the perfect age for enjoying Christmas with. She’s starting to be more aware of what to expect and you can see the excitement and anticipation in her much more than last year. It’s been a whole lot of fun – perhaps too much fun. It’s been a whirlwind and it was maybe a bit too excitement for her, but it’s only once a year and I think it was worth it in the end. I can’t get over how gorgeous she is!

Ellie was even kind enough to help Jack open some of his own presents and generally be a great big sister to him.
