As we were getting ready to go to Marti’s aunt’s house for Thanksgiving, Ellie was enjoying some snuggles with Oma and she just looked adorable!

Ellie loves her Oma, her mama’s mama
Bilingual baby
Ellie’s grandmother is German-born, so she’s Ellie’s “Oma”, and in the interest of having Ellie learn German (since picking up multiple languages is easier the younger they are), Ellie wears these German flag stickers when her Oma is looking after her, to remind her to only speak German to her.
The idea is quite simple: Oma speaks German exclusively to Ellie, so the only way that Ellie can communicate with her Oma is by learning German. After a little bit of muddling the two languages up while learning which words belong to which language, babies quite easily and successfully pick up multiple languages. Then Ellie will already have a great skill, that she can practice not only with her Oma, but with her other German-speaking family members. Ja! (My German is limited…)
Taking it all in by the pool
Ellie’s enjoying a pleasant afternoon by the pool, just taking in everything around her.
A stroll in her new hat
Ellie’s Oma (grandmother) took Ellie out for a walk today, since the weather is getting nicer. She put on her new hat and she looks adorable!
Ellie’s first time in the pool
Today was Labor Day and Ellie got her first taste of the swimming pool. She was a bit too tired the first time we tried, so she didn’t enjoy it too much, but the second time was much more successful and she enjoyed it as much as she has been enjoying her baths. All in all, a success!
