Ellie’s first restaurant excursion

Today, we went to visit an old friend of Martina’s, and we decided to meet at a restaurant for lunch. It was the first time we’d ever taken Ellie to a restaurant, but we felt ok about it, since she’s easier to predict now, and we were outside where she wouldn’t be able to scream the restaurant down if she so chose. She was a champ, and even munched down half a banana while we were there.

This is one of my favourite videos of Ellie so far, and the reason that I enjoy being a parent so much. It’s hard to explain to someone who’s not a parent, because I never got it before either, but being able to do this with your kid is pretty magical. Photo shoots are tiring

This morning, we had a photo shoot with Ellie in the park, while my Dad is here in Florida visiting us, and she was quite exhausted from the whole process, but that didn’t stop us from continuing our photo shoot.

Thoughts on child-rearing after 12 weeks

Well, today marks 12 complete weeks of parenting. It’s been a rollercoaster to say the least, and that goes for all three of us.

The first 8 weeks were particularly hard. Before that point, Ellie wasn’t responding much to us, and she was just very needy, without much “reward” for Martina and me.

For the first 2 weeks, we were in the honeymoon period: we were infatuated with our new arrival, and I was at home full-time, so we could get everything done and we felt accomplished. Ellie’s first time in the pool

Today was Labor Day and Ellie got her first taste of the swimming pool. She was a bit too tired the first time we tried, so she didn’t enjoy it too much, but the second time was much more successful and she enjoyed it as much as she has been enjoying her baths. All in all, a success!

Celebrating Ellie making it to 2 months

To celebrate Ellie making it to 2 months, Martina and I went to have some dinner and a glass of wine. Without her.

Ok, so it might not have been with the express intention of celebrating this milestone, but it happened to fall on the same day, so we can at least pretend that we’re going out for a reason other than to enjoy some time without her!

In all seriousness though, this is the first time that Martina and I are going on a date together since we had Ellie. Oma was kind enough to look after her, now that she’s taking bottles with ease. So we’re taking advantage of it and going to enjoy dinner and a few glasses (bottles) of wine together.

I just got scared because I thought that was a tornado. I don’t even have time to deal with a tornado right now.
