I just spent a few days on business in Kansas City, MO, and I was sure that Sod’s law meant that I was going to miss something, and surely enough, on my final day in KC, I got a very excited text message with a video of Ellie, who said her first word. Martina managed to get Ellie to say “Dada”, which just melted my heart. She keeps repeating it, and it just destroys me. I can’t wait to see her in person when she wakes up in the morning and hear it for myself (hopefully she plays along!). Continue reading “Ellie’s first words [VIDEO]”
Ellie’s freely babbling and making more sounds these days, particularly in the mornings and late at night. It’s pretty cute. Continue reading “Chatting away [VIDEO]”
Ellie’s grandmother is German-born, so she’s Ellie’s “Oma”, and in the interest of having Ellie learn German (since picking up multiple languages is easier the younger they are), Ellie wears these German flag stickers when her Oma is looking after her, to remind her to only speak German to her.
The idea is quite simple: Oma speaks German exclusively to Ellie, so the only way that Ellie can communicate with her Oma is by learning German. After a little bit of muddling the two languages up while learning which words belong to which language, babies quite easily and successfully pick up multiple languages. Then Ellie will already have a great skill, that she can practice not only with her Oma, but with her other German-speaking family members. Ja! (My German is limited…)
Despite her pyjamas, Ellie definitely isn’t “crabby” in the mornings (when she’s wearing them at night, that might be a different story). Continue reading “Not-so-crabby Ellie [VIDEO]”
Ellie is definitely a morning person. She’s her chattiest first thing in the morning. Continue reading “Ellie chatting away in the morning [VIDEO]”
Ellie’s been practicing her smiling and babbling in the past week and she’s getting good! Continue reading “Smiling and babbling [VIDEO]”
